Mayawati Becomes The Kingmaker As BSP Extends Support To Congress In Rajasthan And MP

Just within a year of Rahul Gandhi taking charge as Congress president, his party delivered a hard blow to the ruling BJP in three states: Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. In MP there has been a nail-biting contest with the Congress emerging as the single largest party with 114 seats and has approached the Governor to stake a claim to form the government. Meanwhile, in good news for Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has said that her party would support the Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. She said she would be doing this to keep the BJP out of power. Her support will propel Congress to go past the majority hurdle in both states.
After Mayawati, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, too has extended support to the congress in Madhya Pradesh. His party has one seat in MP.

In Chhattisgarh, the Congress is back after 15 years with an absolute majority. In Rajasthan, the Congress was at 99 and touched the majority mark of 100 with its ally Ajit Singh.

On the other hand, Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) swept Telangana while Mizo National Front (MNF) expanded their political footprint in Mizoram. The MNF gaining majority in Mizoram marks an end for Congress rule in the Northeast.

Meanwhile, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Vasundhra Raje Scindia resigned as the chief ministers of MP and Rajasthan. Former CM Ashok Gehlot and state unite President Sachin Pilot are the two candidates in fray for the post of CM in Rajasthan.

The Congress hopes that the results will boost opposition efforts to form a grand alliance to take on PM Modi in next year’s poll. Talking to media, Rahul Gandhi said:

“Mr Modi has taught me what not to do… Arrogance is fatal for a politician”.

BJP defeated in 5 states

The trends for all the constituencies from the five states are in accordance with the Exit Poll results. It seems like the ruling BJP has lost the plot in gauging the public sentiment.

Speaking on the Assembly Election results, PM Modi accepted defeat in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The prime minister said:
“We accept the people’s mandate with humility. I thank the people of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan for giving us the opportunity to serve these states. The BJP Governments in these states worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people.”

Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot hopes party will be able to replicate these trends at the all-India level.
He said:
“The decision about the post (of CM) is decided by the high command. This is a big gift for Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who was elected as the party president exactly one year ago. The Assembly Election results in Rajasthan show the people of the state have rejected the BJP in all the three states, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.”
Soon after the trends, people were heard chanting After all, the chant heard on the streets of Madhya Pradesh was on the lines of “Modi tujhse bair nai, Vasundhara teri khair nahi (No grudges against you, Modi! Vasundhara, you’re in for some trouble)”.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, a strong critic of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government, has criticised the saffron party leadership and its policies ever since Modi was appointed as the prime minister of India.
She tweeted:

Semifinal proves that BJP is nowhere in all the states. This is a real democratic indication of 2019 final match. Ultimately, people are always the ‘man of the match’ of democracy. My congrats to the winners 3/3
